Self Portrait 1
Self Portrait 2
I avidly shoot in color. Color just makes me feel happy. I love being able to capture natural beauty and not needing to hide it with an app. Pictures 1, 5, 6, 9, 12, and both self-portraits have no filter at all. I used the app Snapseed for the other pictures. My photos were shot with a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Note 4 (had to borrow my mom's phone for some of them).
Hey Jay! Love the low contrast and muted colors in your photos. Despite being tame they are very vibrant and colorful in their own way. The way you used low light in most of the photos is very cool too. They are not overly bright and that adds to the vibe I get from the set. I like the subject matter too. It's like a tour of your house and hood but it's not a lot of typical stuff you would show off in a house. My favorite photo of the set is #9. The beads pop out so much despite the chill tone of the photo. Very nice work Jay!
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteIn terms of construction, you follow the extrapolations our professor taught us about really well. Because of the extreme perspectives you use, your photos always leave me guessing.
Your photos tell me that you're a colorful person to a certain extent - you're not flashy, you're subtle. #2 hits home for me. I am a memory hoarder, saving tickets or any physical object from any event or place I've ever been to. The way you edited it makes it look like it's straight out of the 70's (when I wish I was born). So I love that just looking at this photo, it brings back good memories.
Conceptually, I think the fact that you hardly edited these photos, and the subjects of the photos, show that you enjoy the simple things in life. All of these photos make me feel at ease because of the dulled colors.
My favorite photo is #4 because of the affect it has, reminding the viewer of past memories. It's hard to frame a cork board, but the paper coming off of it balances the photo well. I also don't think it would have the same affect if it were shot straight on - it would seem too neat, and I think the messiness and array of colors is what makes it emotional.
Hi Jay. I really loved your photos. Your construction is great. Your photos are organized well and they're really large, which makes the blog more visually appealing. Your communication is awesome. Through these photos, I can tell that you're an artsy, fun-loving person. Every photo can be read very well, but not to the point where it's cliche. Your conception is also awesome. I like how it's a variety of inside and outside shots, and close-up and wide shots. My favorite photos is number 14, because the red building is the only pop of color in the whole photo.
ReplyDeleteHi Jay! For your construction, all of your picture are numbered, centered, evenly spaced. Also, I really like the variety of both vertical and horizontal shots, as well as close up and far way shots. I also like that some of the pictures can be grouped together by either color or location of where the shot takes place. For your communication, your photographs were easy to read and really creative. I like how close you get to some of the objects that you shot. It made me appreciate the smaller details of them. I also really like the variety of textures you shot. It’s usually difficult to find a variety of textures, but you did it effortlessly! You were able capture everyday objects and highlight their beauty. For the conception of your pictures, it seems like you shot items and locations that are important to you, such as the guitar in picture 7 and the church in picture 13. My vote for POW is picture 2. I like the busyness feel of it. Every time I look at it, I notice something different because there’s just so much going on! Great job!
ReplyDeleteHi Jay,
ReplyDeleteThe construction was good, the photos were centered, spaced, and numbered.
Your communication was good, you had some far away shots outside and some close-up photos of other objects. The change up between objects and buildings and outside was nicely done.
Your conception was great. You took some really nice outdoor photos again, looks like a farm, but you also took pictures of objects that were probably in your room and were important to you.
My favorite photo is #4. It's not a bright photo and a little washed out which goes really well with the cans and room.
Hey Jay,
ReplyDeleteYour construction this week was great – everything was numbered, evenly spaced, and centered.
You communicated a lot of these photos pretty decently and in a variety of ways, but most of them fell a bit flat for me; I think you could have really pushed yourself with the colors in some of these, gotten really up close and more clearly photographed your subject matter. I feel the same way about the concept – some of it felt a bit forced and like stuff I'd seen before. That said, I really liked #12.
Hi Jay,
ReplyDeleteI love photo 2 - I'm a girl who likes to use pins, and this photo in particular uses a lot of repetition in shape that I think works for this color/emotion assignment. All of your other photos have great use of color, too, but not much in the way of subjects for the sake of capturing an emotion, I think if you'd caught people or other things around these colorful scenarios, you would have a lot more emotion going on overall. But this is a great effort!
