NOTES
Most of my pictures captured what I loved most about Philly. The constant change, and the contrast between the new and the old, the flashy and the dull. I've always approached color photos as making it the most natural looking photo of the world. That's why most of my photos don't look that touched up. They may pop more than an untouched photo but they don't go to the extremes of the spectrum.

  1. Hey Jake! You took some really cool photos this week. Your Construction was good. Your pictures were centered, evenly spaced, and easy to follow. I wish they were larger though. As far as Communication, you gave me a cool city feel. It was like walking with you in Philly. I felt like you were taking me on a tour. Finally the Conception was well done. I like the variety of both close-up and far-away photos; it made it interesting. I also like that you were able to capture the natural beauty in scenes and that you didn’t use apps to distract from the pictures. It was hard to choose but my vote for Picture of the Week goes to #5. The doorway inside the doorway really draws me in. The different color inside each doorway also adds to the interest. Great job this week!

  2. Hi Jake!

I spotted a pattern in your construction, which you've mastered! A majority of your photos are divided and centered by a line going down the middle, whether it be a cobblestone street, a structure on the ceiling, or a pipe on a construction site. This makes it easier to find a balance in your photos and shows that you've framed them well.

As for communication, you definitely like to explore, but give me some more! What else are you passionate about that you can show through color?

Conceptually, it shows that you were going for shots that were perfectly fine on their own in terms of color, without any processing, which sometimes can be refreshing. You're so right about the constant change and contrast happening in Philly, though, which your photos communicate, capturing brick textures for the old and brighter solid colors for the new. #12 reminds me of the neighborhoods in Philly that are continually up-and-coming.

My favorite photo is #12. There's so much going in the frame, but it's so well balanced because of that line down the center. The time of day also makes the colors work really well together - these are normally bright colors, but they are dulled by a grey day and no one is overpowering the other.

  3. Hi Jake. Your construction is good. Every photo on your blog is centered and evenly spaced. However, they could benefit from being a bit larger. Your communication is great. Through these photos you are telling us that you travel to all different parts of the city, and experience everything this city has to offer. I like how several photos were taken outside. Your conception is also really good. I like the angles you used. I also like how several photos have a vanishing point. My favorite photo is number 2 because I can't really tell where you are, but I love the architecture of the room.

  4. Hi Jacob! For your construction, you numbered and centered all of your pictures. I think it would be easier to view if there was more spacing between the pictures though. Also, making the pictures bigger would allow the viewer to spend more time looking at a single picture at a time instead of getting distracted by the previous or following picture. For your communication, your pictures were easy to decipher, but the location definitely wasn’t! I have no clue where you are in all of your pictures, which definitely added mystery. I especially liked pictures 6 and 7 because I’m a big fan of seafood. For the conception, it’s clear that you like to explore the city! It looks like you shot pictures of new locations you’ve discovered and framed them similarly to one another. My vote for POW is picture 10 because there’s several subtle pops of color. I also like the way it’s framed – it makes me feel like the street is never ending. Good job!

  5. Hiya Jake,
The construction was good. Your photos were numbered, centered, and spaced evenly. You should make the preview larger though.
Your communication was good. You can tell you are passionate about really cool buildings and just general outside city life.
Your conception was good. You went around and tried to find some really cool buildings and objects outside (minus #13.) I think you could have taken a photo that wasn't of a building to add a little more variety.
My favorite photo is #12. I think construction projects are interesting and I noticed it pretty quickly and tried to figure out what exactly they were doing.

  6. Hi Jake,
You pictures were centered and numbered correctly. the size of the pictures makes it hard to see all of the details. I think your first sets us up for the trip we will be taking with you. It looks like you took a walk and photographed some interesting scenes along the way. My favorite picture is #10. It looks like you are walking through historic Philadelphia.

  7. The construction of your photos was good! They were centered and numbered consistently which makes them organized. I really liked your use of line and shaped in the pictures to draw viewers eyes to the subjects! My favorite picture is number 10 because of this reason! The lines of the street add dimension to the photo and lead to the subject at the end. It makes the picture seem to come alive and appear to be bigger than it is! I also liked your use of color this week. While you didn't use too many pops of color, the color you did focus on brought some life to the photos. I also felt the sense that your photos were of scenes and objects in your everyday life that provide you with passion, which I can relate to!

  8. Hey Jake,

I like the construction of your photos and how they are organized all the way through. I felt like you communicated your love for city life and Philadelphia really well throughout the blog. I love the theme of Philly always changing and feel like you picked good content to go with it. It is so true, Philly is always changing. For this reason, I pick photo 12 as my picture of the week. I like the newly renovated buildings contrasting with the ground which is still under construction.

  9. Hi Jake!

Your photos were constructed and communicated really methodically, which I appreciate. You have a very distinct and straightforward formula, very neat and straight-on. I kind of wish you'd play with your perspectives a bit, though; make things a bit more off-center and off-kilter just to see how that works for you, maybe. That said, conceptually, you really had a lot going on with shape and muted, quieter colors, and it struck well with me. #3 was by far my favorite – it has such a warm hearth of light in the bottom center that really draws the eye.

  10. Hi Jake,

I love that in your photos I can tell you are very busy and do a lot of getting around Philly! Automatically adds interest. To me, your strongest photo feels like 12, with the construction site. I'm especially fond of a green and orange color palette in photos, so I like the result of your photo there. It would be a little more interesting to see some more human expression in your photos, but your description of the old and new in Philly is also a good take on the assignment.
