I primarily used Lenka to take and edit my pictures, but I also used Snapseed for a couple of them. I preferred to use Lenka because it has exposure, contrast, tint, illumination, and manual focus buttons that you can use to edit your photos. One thing that I didn’t like about Lenka was that you can’t change the view to the front-facing camera, which is why I used Snapseed to take my self portraits. I also didn’t like that it doesn’t allow you to go back and edit a picture after you’ve finished with it. However, not being able to go back and edit a picture was also a good thing because it prevented me from over editing/over analyzing my pictures. I really like how #12 came out after I used the exposure, contrast, and tint options in Lenka. It kind of looks like a question mark, which adds to the mystery!

  1. Number 1 reminds me of the neighborhood I grew up in. Tires were just beginning to be used as flower pots. It was strange and exciting for a kid to see what else a tire could be used for. Nothing is growing in these tires, because it is winter. They are stacked up in anticipation of spring and summer when flowers will grow again. The black and white photo emphasizes the barreness of the tires.

  2. Hi Patty! You have some nice pictures. Your Construction was good. Your pictures were centered, evenly spaced, and numbered. I wish you took some horizontal pictures though; the variety would have been nice. As far as Communication, I like the quirkiness in some of your photos. The small details, like the dog in # 10 and the face in # 6, made the photos interesting to look at. I didn’t know what I would find, which went with the “mystery” theme. Finally, I thought you did well with the Conception. I liked the variety of close-up and far-away photos. I also liked the use of light. Some photos were really bright and others were really dark, which created interest. I’m voting for #2 for the Picture of the Week. I like the upward angle. I also like the contrast of the dark lines in the light sky. The “Danger” sign creates the sense of mystery; it makes me wonder why you are there. I think it fits the theme. Good job!

  3. That figure is creepy. The composition of that photo is great too. The line that goes down the middle of the picture does a good job of directing the eyes to where you want them to go. I also like the lighting of the figure. The darkness of it makes me believe it doesn't want to be seen as compared to the rest of the photo which is nice and bright.

  4. Hey Patty,
The construction is good. Everything was centered and numbered, but I think it would look a little better with a space between each photo.
Your communication was good. I liked the randomness of all the photos, none of them went together, they were all very different and mysterious.
Your conception was good. You did a good job of using light to create bright and dark photos. Some photos were close up and others weren't, but they all seemed mysterious even though you might have a wide range of sight.
My favorite photo is #6. The photo just messes with my head. I can't tell if I'm looking up, down, or whatever way. Also the objects form triangles and makes it look like the figure is peaking in from a different depth or level.

  5. Patty,
Your construction was good. I think you could benefit by adding more space between your photos, so people can clearly tell which number goes with which photo. Also, you could add a short description at the bottom to describe which apps you used to take and edit the photos to come to the end result. Your communication was great, some photos could be read better than others, but mystery was the point of this assignment so I think you did a great job. I also loved all the different angles and tones you used, not all of them were the typical shades of black and white. Your conception was awesome. I like how none of the photos seemed to be taken in the same location, it shows that you put a lot of effort into them and took them over a long period of time. I like how some of them seemed like they were taken in a small town, it's a nice refreshing change from all the urban photos I've been looking at. My favorite photo is your second self portrait because I like the tone, and I like how your hair takes up half the photo and is the focal point. The curls and very defined and look very pretty.

  6. Construction: Good! But some spaces between pictures are needed.

Communication: Most pictures have good angle and focus causing mystery so that interests me a lot. your sp1 is really pretty!

Conception: You are very good at finding something unique and mysterious from our daily life, especially those pictures you took very close from objects.

My fav picture is 6 because it has the biggest mystery and interesting angle. What are they!?

  7. I am extremely into Photo #10. The contrast of it that makes the little creature pop, and the placement of that creature leads me straight into the photo in a nice way. I notice your photos have a variety of textures to them, which I appreciate a lot, and I can't wait to see what you'll photograph next!
