Technical Notes: I love shooting at odd angles. I look at the world in a pretty different way, and find myself incredibly attracted to stark contrasts and light effects. I use an iPhone 6 and edit all of my photos with Snapseed and the Apple Photos applications.
Number 2 looks like Courtney is looking up. Taking the sky from that viewpoint, brings attention to the sun peeking through. The picture could have been taken after rain or it could be in the evening. the light on the wall in the middle of darkness is the opposite of what is happening in the sky. The darkness is upstaged by the light.I took a picture where I was looking up during the shoot. That angle gives a distinct positioning to a picture.

ReplyDeletePicture 9 does a good job of confusing the viewer. The lines leading downwards makes the station look like an elevator shaft at first. It takes a while for the viewer to get that it's a train station.
ReplyDeleteHi Courtney! You took some really interesting photos. Your Construction was good. Your pictures were centered (expect #1), evenly spaced, and numbered. For Communication, I liked the urban, city feel. I also liked your use of lighting. The sky in #2 particularly gave me a sense of creepiness, which goes with the “mystery” theme. I thought your Conception was good. I liked the variety of close-up and far-away photos. I also thought your use of angles created interest. My vote for Picture of the Week is #9. I like the streaked look of the lighting. The angle also created interest. I believe this photo fits the “mystery” theme. I don’t know where this is and I feel isolated. Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteHello Courtney,
ReplyDeleteThe construction was good, everything was centered (except the first photo), numbered, and spaced the same.
Your communication was great. You took lots of photos of the city and the toning made them look very dim and mysterious. The blur on some of them made those photos really stick out and be different.
Your conception was great. I really liked your toned photos, you did a really good job on that. I wish the photos were bigger though.
My favorite photo is #1. I have a picture of rain drops too and always thought photos like that looked really awesome. Your toning on it really gave it a nice effect.
Courtney,
ReplyDeleteYour construction was good, except for the first photo which was not centered. You could also benefit by adding a short description of what apps you used. Your communication was awesome. It was hard to tell what some of the closeup ones were of, but that was the point of this assignment. I thought your photos were very mysterious, and they got me thinking and made me look at them longer, instead of just scrolling past. Your conception was great, I like the different tones you used, and how some photos were almost in "sepia" rather than "black and white". I also like how they all had a similar urban theme, however still remained diverse by switching up the angles and contrast. My favorite photo was number seven. I really like the blurriness, it makes the photo appear eerie and creepy, like something out of a scary movie.
Hi Courtney! In terms of construction, all of your pictures are numbered and centered (except for #1). I like that you had both horizontal and vertical pictures and that your black and white and tonal pictures were dispersed and not clumped together. Your communication was really good! I couldn’t easily decipher what your pictures were, which made it more mysterious. My vote for picture of the week is #2. It reminded me of the show ‘Vampire Diaries.’ It’s very eerie and memorable. For the conception, it looks like all of your pictures are of your everyday surroundings, which is cool because it allows the viewers to see what a typical day or couple of days looks like in your life. I also like how some of your pictures are a little blurry and how you used the natural lighting in your environment to take some unique shots, such as in pictures #9 and #12. Great job!
ReplyDeleteConstruction: Good but the very first picture should be centered. Oh and also what apple applications did you use?
ReplyDeleteCommunication: Your pictures make me feel what I see everyday is different! That's mystery!
Conception: Some pictures were blurry and I would like to know if you took them on purpose or edited them. Your view and angle are unique!
My fav picture is 2. Totally mystery. I have no idea where it is and what they are!
Hi Courtney,
ReplyDeleteYour construction is interesting — it looks like you took a few photos while moving to create a sense of motion, but I think that along with the diagonal set-up in some of these hinders the mood of the photos. Capturing motion can be a really effective way to get a point across, but it doesn't quite seem to have a purpose in your photos. Especially in places like the SEPTA turnstiles, I think your photos would really benefit from having some human subjects moving through them. I think that's why I like photo 5 of yours the best— there is a little bit of interest in the photo simply because of all of the different people in it. However, the lighting is kind of dark and I can't quite tell what is going on. I think you're onto a good start, though. If you can for next time, just try to get a bit closer and wait for some people to go through the scenes you're capturing!
