I love exploring - no matter where I am! Wherever I go, I always find myself looking up at my surroundings, or getting up close and personal with something I'm interested in, which I demonstrate in the composition and framing of some of my shots. I really enjoy natural light and the effects it can have on photos, or how it can make a room look.

All of these were shot on my Samsung Galaxy s5 smartphone camera. They were all edited in Aviary by increasing shadows, at times, increasing brightness, and turning the saturation all the way down. For the shots with tone added, I increased the warmth.

  1. Number 3 puts me in the mind of a street in Gilmore Girls. The angle in which Francesca takes this picture contrasts the size of the buildings with the street. I think of a quaint place with small shops and neighborly people. The sign shows town might be in danger, because there may be some construction.

  2. I think this picture the best because of the view in which it was taken and emphasis on the street being larger and the buildings being smaller.

  3. Picture 4 has very nice tone and composition. The contrast between the cup and the table create an almost ying and yang effect. The way you framed the cup to take up one whole side of the photo is nice too.

  5. Hi Francesca! You have some really cool photos. Your Construction was good. Your pictures were centered, evenly spaced, and numbered. I also liked how you numbered them. I think it fits your style. Your Communication was done well. I think you captured the “mystery” theme. I like the openness of you photos. I can clearly read “308” in picture #11 but it is still a mystery to me. What’s in room 308? Why are you going there? The Conception was well done. I like the use of natural light in your photos. For example, the streak of light in #2 helped break-up the darkness in the bottom left corner. Finally, I’m voting for # 10 for the Picture of the Week. I like the angle; you can see into the file and the other file drawers. I also like having the light files and the dark drawers; it creates interest. Even though I know what it is, it still fits the theme of “mystery”. I want to know what you are looking for and why. Nice job!

  6. Hello Francesca,
The construction was great, everything was centered, spaced nicely, and numbered. Your way of numbering was really cool and outside the box!
Your communication was good. They all had some sort of mystery to them. Where does that door go? Where was that person in the snow walking too, why? Etc.
Your conception was good. You took some unique photos that had good lighting and toning to them.
My favorite photo is #3. It reminds me of a music video ("Things Don't Look Good" by Genghis Tron). The old brick road and dirt on the construction sign make the area seem really dirty and empty.

  7. Francesca,
I really enjoyed your photos. Your construction was great. I like how you numbered your photos by spelling out the number, and putting it in between two lines. That made the entire thread look more artistic. Your communication was awesome. You framed every photo very well and there was not one photo like another. Several photos had me wondering where you were, which shows you really captured the mystery aspect of this assignment. Your conception was great. I liked how some were outside, and some were inside. I think you really captured the essence of a city in these photos. My favorite photo is number eighth because you don't know where these footprints are coming from, and you don't know where they're going, so it is perfectly mysterious.

  8. Hello!
I really like your construction on the blog and the creativity to number your pictures. I also found your blog to communicate the mystery of daily activities and how there is mystery in them all. For conception, I think that your motive behind your pictures was adventure. And finding that adventure in daily objects. Overall, you had great pictures but my favorite was the first one! I like the angle and it has great lighting!

  9. Construction: Good! Those numbers are already art!

Communication: You are good at giving some mystery both on far from / close to an object pictures. I think it is by light and what you focus on each picture.

Conception: You chose some thing very simple as an object. I enjoyed them all since you use shadow and focus really well to put more mystery.

My fav picture is 10. It is like a photo taken decades ago! Good angle.

  10. Francesca,

The variety of camera angles and perspectives in your photos really captivated me. I found myself staring for a while, and the subtlety of your toned photographs were really well done. I appreciated they weren't overly saturated sepias like so many tonal black and white photos on social media are these days. You've got a great eye!

  11. Hi Francesca,

The visual construction and layout of your photos is nice, and I feel like most of your photos were pre-visualized, which is good. It communicates a lot of personality when there is purposeful framing/angles of subjects, which you have a lot of. I especially like the look of #11 because it is cleanly framed, the image is sharp, and there is some interesting repetition of the file names. With all of your photos put together, I can kind of get a feel for what you might do on a daily basis, so I think the conceptual part of your work is coming along pretty nicely.
